Tampa Bay Holiday Happenings 2016
Just because Floridians trade in cold temperatures for year-round, flip-flop wearing weather doesn’t mean we skimp on celebrating the Holidays. There are plenty of unique ways to celebrate the season. Here’s a quick rundown of events that are family friendly or date-worthy to get you in a jolly good mood.
Winter Village
Starts November 19
Curtis Hixon Park, 600 N. Ashley Dr, Downtown Tampa
A City of Tampa tradition gets a few enhancements this season. Enjoy seven pop-up shops that will be made from PODS containers, sit down for some hot coca in the newly created café and of course, spend some time ice skating in the tented rink. Christmas in the Wild
Starts November 25
Lowry Park Zoo, 1101 W. Sligh Ave., Tampa
Check out the zoo animals up close and personal, and after dark. There will be carolers and performers to entertain children of all ages, holiday treats and photos with Santa and his elves. A new signature event for one of the most highly regarded zoos in the U.S., Christmas in the Wild continues on Friday and Saturday nights through December 23, then continues nights from December 26-30. Wonderland of Lights
Starts November 24
Hillsborough County Fairgrounds, Brandon
Drive through this spectacular display of animated and still lights. There will be a Christmas village with horse-drawn wagon rides, Train rides through the ‘North Pole’ along with crafts and food. Holiday Classic Movie Series
Starts November 27
Tampa Theatre, 711 Franklin St., Downtown Tampa
There’s nothing like watching a classic movie in Tampa’s magnificent movie palace. Each year, Tampa Theatre shows some of the most beloved holiday movies. This year kicks off with Miracle on 34th Street. Visit again to watch Bing Crosby in Holiday Inn, hum the signature theme during the movie White Christmas, cheer on Jimmy Stewart in It’s a Wonderful Life, and new this year, the romantic comedy, Love Actually. Victorian Christmas Stroll
Starts December 1
Henry B. Plant Museum, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa
A National Historic Landmark, the museum on the campus of University of Tampa was once the Tampa Bay Hotel. Back in the 1880’s railroad and business magnate Henry Bradley Plant built the lavish playground that played host to the rich and famous. At the holidays, see it decked out with an array of themed Christmas trees, antique toy displays and fashions from the Victorian age.
