Top 6 Tips for Waterset Runners

 

One of the many things people love about Waterset is the active lifestyle! With 12 miles of trails, running is a favorite for many of our residents. Stop by, and you’re almost sure to see someone jogging in the neighborhood. Whether you’re new to running or have a stack of marathon medals, here are our best tips for running in Waterset.

 

  1. Timing is Everything
    One of our most important tips is to carefully select what time you run. Summer afternoons in Apollo Beach can be hot, so run in the morning or the evening, when the sun is not at its peak. Mornings tend to be more reliable, as evenings often bring Florida rain. Luckily, Waterset is so close to Apollo Beach that runners often get a nice bay breeze that keeps temperatures cooler.

  2. The Great Indoors
    If you do want to run in the middle of the day, or just prefer an indoors environment, our fitness centers are equipped with treadmills, as well as other cardio equipment. The fitness centers are open from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m.
     
  3. Mix it Up
    With 12 miles of trails, you can run every day and never get tired of the same old scenery. Whether you want to run around one of the ponds, down Waterset Boulevard, or through our parks, there's something for everyone. Even if you stick to the same trail, you might be surprised one day to see ducks, herons, or other avian wildlife!
     
  4. Incorporate Other Exercises
    Not only are our trails a great place to run, they’re a great place for a full-body workout! Our 2.5 mile Fit Trail has 5 outdoor workout stations that are a great way to break up your running routine. The Lakeside has a set of 5 outdoor workout stations as well.
     
  5. Grab a Partner
    Running is better with a friend! Our Greenway Trail System offers 12’ wide trails - perfect for strollers, young bicyclers, or furry friends. Waterset also has a running club and a triathlon club, so you can meet new friends while getting exercise!
     
  6. Stay Hydrated
    Bring a frozen water bottle with you to cool off on hot days - it will melt during your run, so you don’t have to worry about your water getting warm! Waterset offers water fountains at our community amenities.
