5 Summer Mocktail Recipes for Your Next Backyard Bash
Looking for some fun backyard refreshment recipes for all to enjoy? Whether you’re trying out “Dry July,” or just want something fun and colorful for the kids, these mocktail recipes are sure to impress your guests!
Patriotic Faux-Jito
Originally created in Cuba, mojitos are light, flavorful, and refreshing. They’re also so, so simple! A standard mojito calls for rum, fresh mint leaves, club soda, limes, and a touch of your favorite sweetener. Our patriotic recipe is a little more complicated, but will still take less than 5 minutes! We’re just adding strawberries and blueberries for a red, white, and blue finish!
First, muddle together your mint leaves, lime wedges, and strawberry halves with your choice of sweetener. Add some ice, then fill it up with lime-flavored sparkling water. Add some blueberries as a floating garnish at the top and ta-da! We love this recipe because it can easily be made in a party-size batch!
Spa Day Mocktail
This one will have you feeling like you just stepped into a luxury spa, and it’s as easy as 1-2-3! Combine sparkling water, thinly sliced cucumbers, and mint leaves for a relaxing summer drink. Perfect for hot days by the pool – the lack of alcohol will keep you refreshed instead of making you dehydrated. For more flavor, add in some watermelon balls!
Blueberry Ginger Cooler
Boiling the blueberries with the ginger gives this mocktail a red, white, and blue layered look and the unique combination of flavors is sure to please even the most die-hard craft cocktail connoisseurs.
Boil water, blueberries, and grated ginger in a pan on medium-high heat, then add your sweetener and mix until it dissolves. Lower the heat and mash the blueberries, then let your mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Once it reaches room temperature, strain the syrup and use immediately or refrigerate for later. You’ll combine 2/3 of your syrup with 1/3 lemon-lime sparkling water. Garnish with fresh blueberries.
Zero-Proof Paloma
Palomas are a favorite summer drink! They’re equal parts tart and refreshing, and the low calorie count is a bonus too! The standard recipe calls for tequila, lime, a pinch of sugar, and your choice of grapefruit soda or a mix of grapefruit juice and sparkling water. Believe it or not, it tastes just as good when you omit the tequila and you’ll feel better the next morning!
Sparkling Sunrise, Two Ways
Classic: This colorful mocktail is a fresh take on a favorite: the tequila sunrise. Combine 3 parts orange juice with 1 part grenadine, then swap out the traditional tequila for club soda.
Grapefruit Sunrise: Instead of orange juice, use grapefruit juice, then add your grenadine and club soda. Your ombré sunset effect will beautifully fade from light orange to dark pink! Perfect for a girly gathering!
